The Nanny State Index (NSI) is a league table of the worst places in the European Union to eat, drink, smoke and vape. The initiative was launched by EPICENTER in March 2016 and was a media hit right across Europe. It is masterminded and led by IEA’s Christopher Snowdon branded through the European Policy Information Center (EPICENTER). The European Parliament edition of the Index compares all political groups, parties, and nationalities in the EP in the same four categories as the original NSI. It serves as a useful guide for Brussels policy makers and shapers about the diverging voting patterns of MEPs when it comes to regulatory attitudes in lifestyle areas.
