Conference

Background

The Nanny State Index (NSI) is a league table of the worst places in the European Union to eat, drink, smoke and vape. The initiative was launched by EPICENTER in March 2016 and was a media hit right across Europe. It is masterminded and led by IEA’s Christopher Snowdon branded through the European Policy Information Center (EPICENTER).

In the 2019 edition, Germany has overtaken the Czech Republic to become the EU’s most liberal country. Finland remains the least free member state when it comes to drinking, smoking, vaping and food regulation, with Lithuania and Estonia in second and third place respectively.
